Having read Carolyn Jessop's accounting of her life as the wife of a cult-leader in her new book, "Escape", I realized that all the traits identified with her high-profile cult can also be very present in an independent sect; even within an individual family. However, many times when on a smaller scale such as family-level, it goes totally unnoticed and unannounced. The vicitims (the wives and children) just do their best to get away and suffer the consequences silently-like an injured sheep.

Wolf-like abuse is sometimes sneakier than what Carolyn experienced. Wolves can creep along like a serpent and attack at a moments notice. But the attack does not have to be loud, violent and explosive, it can be quick, quiet and unnoticed by onlookers. These kinds of attacks can be more crippling and injurious than deadly. Sometimes wolves like to play with their victim-especially if they aren't really hungry-but just bored.
